Our Hackathon went very well – thanks to everyone who came and helped out!
The TRIF project in particular inspired lots of follow-up discussion and an idea – create an online platform for open/public Tulsa data. As it turns out, there are lots of resources for this kind of thing already:
- ScraperWiki, BuzzData, and DataCouch all offer online services to request, create, and host data.
- Socrata does the same kind of thing, with an emphasis towards Government.
- Open Data Protocol encapsulates HTTP, AtomPub, and JSON into a standard way to create and query data. It’s supported by many Microsoft products already.
- Lots more sites and services
So, do we want to start a Tulsa Data platform project? Something like tulsadata.org or even okdata.org? We would add available Tulsa data to the site – transit, political, healthcare, employment, education, etc. – and then promote the site to developers to build Tulsa apps and sites using the Tulsa data.
Open to discuss – here and on Facebook.
